Husthwaite is an ancient settlement, one of the oldest buildings being St. Nicholas' Parish Church dating from the twelfth century, which, with the Village Green, forms the centre of the village.
The village is a Designated Conservation Area and is adjacent to the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.
Our village is a thriving local community with a wide range of activies. Many of these take place in our local Village Hall which has become a focal point of entertainment ranging from dramatic productions and talks to scottish country dancing which culminates in a Burns Night Celebration every year.
Woolpots Solar Farm - Your Opinion Counts survey.
Thank you to everyone who responded to the Woolpots Solar Farm - Your Opinion Counts survey.
The Parish Council delivered the survey to all 180 dwellings in Husthwaite.
We received 96 responses representing a total of 188 electors out of a possible 340 (55%).
The results are as follows:
- 36 support the development of Woolpots Solar Farm (10.6% of electors / 19.15% of responses)
- 20 are neither in favour nor against the development (5.9% of electors / 10.64% of responses)
- 132 object to the development of Woolpots Solar Farm (38.8% of electors / 70.21% of responses)
As agreed, the Parish Council will be expressing these views by sending an additional response to Hambleton District Council.

Husthwaitians have raised a fantastic £5,240.00 so far.
We have also been lucky enough to secure a grant for £18,000 from Hambleton District Council's Making a Difference Fund and a further £3000 from the AONB toward the installation of solar panels.
The solar panels are up and running and the building work has been scheduled for the 4 quarter of 2022
For those of you who would still like to make a donation before the April 30th, please use this gift aid form or email thegreenzoo@btinternet.com
We shall keep you posted as additional fundraising events occur throughout the year
A notice of acknowledgment shall be displayed in the hall in due course

Villagers to be polled on Woolpots solar farm
Husthwaite Parish Council will object to the Woolpots Solar Farm scheme if a majority of villagers oppose the scheme in a poll which closes on 31 March.
To date the village Parish Council has raised no objections to the scheme. While supporting green energy facilities in principle, it does accept that together with the existing Boscar Grange solar farm it would create a near continuous 'sea' of solar panels totalling over 450 acres adjacent to a conservation area, and could also impact local businesses. The PC has not consulted the views of village residents.
However, at a PC meeting on 15 March, councillors met representatives of the informal Husthwaite residents action group. The group, which says it is completely in favour of renewable energy, requested the PC to raise an objection to the Woolpots scheme. They say the scale of the 250 acre facility is inappropriate and would have a widespread and detrimental impact on the environment and on the local community. They also point out that a large number of villagers had objected to the scheme since it had recently been more broadly publicised.
Concerns that the scheme was poorly publicised are believed to be behind Hambleton District Council's decision to extend the period for public comments until May.
To date, the Hambleton planning portal shows that some 99 objections have been raised against the scheme compared to about 20 in favour, although these figures do include some duplicate comments from both sides.
The planned village poll is being conducted right now by the PC and asks if villagers support, oppose, or are neither in favour nor against the Woolpots scheme. It closes on Thursday 31 March. The understanding of the residents' group is that a simple majority of those objecting to, or supporting the scheme, will determine the Parish Council's further response to Hambleton.
In addition to the poll, the PC has also agreed to look at the evidence provided by the Woolpots developers, Lightrock and Econergy, in case it is inaccurate. The PC noted there was an incomplete glint and glare study (it failed to note the presence of Baxby Airfield) and doubts have been raised about the analysis of the soil quality of the land to be covered by the proposed scheme.
Looking ahead, the PC agreed to sponsor work on an updated Parish Plan which would include social, economic and environmental issues, as well as the siting of new developments, and would need to involve the whole village community. The last village plan was published in 2006 and made no reference to climate change, green energy or the national strategic priority of food security and support for domestic agriculture

Below is an extract of a press release, written by Ian, on behalf of the group and a link to the full document.
'More than 100 people crammed into Husthwaite Village Hall on Monday evening for a meeting called in response to a proposal to build an industrial scale solar farm next to the village and nearby Carlton Husthwaite. This was the villagers' first opportunity to meet representatives of the Israeli-owned developer Econergy...'
