Music Night at the Village Hall

They said it couldn't be done but Amanda Humpleby proved them wrong when she produced a magnificent 3-course meal, prepared in the hall kitchen, to start off the evening. We dined on a tasty first course of ‘Stilton and Pear salad' followed by ‘Coq au Vin' or ‘Vegetable Tagine'. Amanda had put her cake making skills to good use by making a terrific variety of gateaux to finish.

After being fed we sat back, in good Yorkshire tradition, and expected to be entertained. Mark Ostyn and his orchestra did just that with a varied programme of Christmas music. The audience was treated to excerpts from Handel's Messiah and a selection of Christmas Carols. We enjoyed two impressive solo singing performances and were delighted by the invitation to join in and accompany the carol singing.

Despite advancing years, the hall, like some of us present, looked splendid thanks to subdued lighting and selective decoration. For this we must thank the efforts of the village hall committee and of course Stephen Barker and Mike and Breda Wells who had organised the whole event and should feel very proud of the end result.
