Husthwaite Art Cafe

news

A group of enthusiastic Husthwaite folk have been meeting once a month in the village hall, on a Thursday morning, to try a variety of arts and crafts with the guidance of Rural Arts tutors. This is part of the RA Community programme, and we have recruited a cheerful Husthwaite group of learners with a variety of talents. So far we have attempted pottery, lino cutting, Christmas wreathmaking, monoprints and papercutting, with one session in February left ahead to try something new.

Around 16 people usually come along, and it is hoped, if Rural Arts Lottery bid for community funding is successful, to continue with these monthly sessions, in which we learn but have fun and friendship as well, with others joining.

As a spin off from this, to run in March, the group are very lucky to have been offered a free 12 hour course at Rural Arts in Thirsk, where over 4 weeks we can learn more about pottery and printmaking. The specialist equipment at Thirsk Rural Arts will enable us to widen our skills and attempt more structured learning with tutors.

It is really interesting to have this opportunity to try new skills in this field, and it has been a great addition to the village hall's offer to the community. Expect some masterpieces appearing from March onwards!
