Husthwaite CE Primary School & Nursery - News

news

It was lovely to welcome children and families back after their summer break and hear all their exciting holidays news.

We welcomed our new Reception children as well as new children joining us in other year groups. Everyone has settled back into school well and is enjoying their learning and being back with their friends.

Many children completed the Summer Reading Challenge and were rewarded with certificates being presented during one of our Collective Worships by the Easingwold Librarian.

Our whole school topic this term is ‘Castles'. Classes 2 and 3 are looking forward to a visit to Helmsley Castle and the Bird of Prey Centre as part of this topic. Children have been learning about ‘Why castles were built?'. ‘The importance of their locations' and ‘How successful they were (or not) in keeping out invaders'.

GOLD SPORTS MARK AWARD
We are proud to announce that for the fourth consecutive year we have successfully achieved the School Games Gold Sports Mark Award. This confirms our commitment to promoting children's participation in a wide choice of competitive and non-competitive sports and clubs that is inclusive and accessible to everyone of all abilities. The achievement in gaining this Award recognises our commitment to encouraging our pupils to have a positive attitude towards healthy lifestyle choices.

PERFORMING ARTS WEEK
During the first week of October we are having an enrichment curriculum week based on ‘Performing Arts'. Craig Bradley, a children's poet, will be joining us for a day of fun filled poetry workshops. We look forward to his very poems. Children will also have the opportunity to participate in a circus skills workshop and a dance activity linked to a story. A book fair will be in school during the week and we are hosting a performance by Lempen Puppet Theatre Company who have travelled all over the world performing their puppet shows.

We are holding an open day on Saturday 6th October from 10am-11.30am. This is an opportunity for those parents who are starting look for school placements for their children starting a reception class next September to come and experience Husthwaite School. All articles can be brought to school in dustbin bags before 9am on 23rd November or the day before. This is aa great recycling facility that raises funds for school and helps others in need.
