Open Gardens & Summer market

Are you ready for Husthwaite's big event on Sunday 2nd July? The combined village Open Gardens and Summer Market, will run from 11.00am to 5.00pm. The ever-popular market at the village hall will have a gardening theme, as well as selling the usual artisan produce. The hard-working café people will be providing a range of food, such as bacon sandwiches and homemade cakes.

There will be a good choice of Husthwaite gardens to visit, of various sizes in different parts of the village. Children will particularly enjoy the Secret Bunny competition. The Gardening Club will be running a plant stall at Hillcrest House, selling plants from village gardens as well as an opportunity to pick up late bedding plants. Our own keen naturalists, Keith and June Gittens will be running a stall with a particular emphasis on moth identification.

Visitors will also have a chance to visit our lovely 12th century church which will be sharing the day's profits with the village hall. All in all, Sunday 2nd July is going to be a busy day in Husthwaite as we show off our beautiful village to a wider public. Parking will be on-street, so please be patient with our visitors and if possible, keep your own cars off the street.

We need a small army of volunteers to run the event. Thankfully, many people have already offered help, but if you would like to be involved in some way, do contact either Philip Hewitson or Breda Wells. Contributions for the plant stall should be delivered to Hillcrest not later than lunchtime on Saturday 1st July. If you have difficulty transporting them, give Breda a ring and we will collect your plants.

Do encourage your friends to visit, but please note that dogs will not be allowed in the gardens. A personal invitation is worth far more than any advertisement. All we need now is a day of warm, dry weather! Phone numbers: Philip Hewitson 868570, Breda Wells 868398.
