Husthwaite Olympics 2016!

news

On one of the best day's of the year, the children of Husthwaite, surrounding villages and friends enjoyed their very own Olympics! Over 25 children came along to the MUGA to enjoy a full on activity day; starting gently with some competitive individual sports "Beat the Goalie" and "Netball Shoot". The morning finished with a very energetic relay race with parents and friends eagerly cheering on both teams, while the organisers shouted "don't run too fast", "take your time" concerned about any mishaps whilst checking their supplies of plasters! All went well and with the race complete, everyone took a well earned packed lunch break.
After lunch, team games were next on the agenda, with a choice of football or rounders' for both children and adults. Team games ended in a draw, much to the adults relief!
Then the final event of the day, the "Husthwaite Mile", a walk, run, cycle around the village, starting and finishing at the Village Hall for refreshments and prizes.
A successful day and one that we will definitely try to do again, without waiting every 4 years.

Congratulations to our trophy winners; Isla, winner of the over 11's Husthwaite Mile (in a remarkable time of 12.34.33) and Bella, winner of the 11years and under, Fergus, winner of the Netball Shoot and Oscar, winner of Beat the Goalie.
Everyone taking part received a special medal and certificate.
Thank you to everyone who came along, children, parents and helpers, to Rory Watt for being our Goalie. Finally, a special thank you to Catherine Skinner for organising the event with such enthusiasm, much appreciated Catherine!
