As the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel has only a single remaining vacancy - posing a rooming predicament for two fresh arrivals - Sonny pursues his expansionist dream of opening a second hotel.
Evelyn and Douglas have now joined the Jaipur workforce, Norman and Carol are negotiating the tricky waters of an exclusive relationship, and Madge juggles two eligible and very wealthy suitors.
Perhaps the only one who knows all the answers is newly installed co-manager of the hotel, Muriel, the keeper of everyone's secrets.

It's 1969 at a strict English girls' school where charismatic Abbie and intense and troubled Lydia are best friends. After a tragedy occurs at the school, a mysterious fainting epidemic breaks out threatening the stability of all involved.
Within the volatile, strange atmosphere of the school and her troubled home-life, Lydia feels driven to discover what is really behind everything that seems wrong.
Eventually Lydia's actions force old secrets to rise to the surface and she finds herself faced with a truth that she never expected.
