Festival of St Nicholas

Not only is St Nicholas our patron saint but also the original Santa Claus and patron saint of children. So for us in Husthwaite, as we celebrate his feast day, it is an opportunity to celebrate in a very practical way the man who is remembered particularly for his generosity to those in need and especially their children.

We are meeting on Sunday (8th December) at 5pm in St Nicholas' Church to celebrate the Feast of St Nicholas with an Informal Service about Giving and Receiving - followed by a chat with friends over mulled wine and mince pies.

Remembering St Nicholas

Heather, our Reader, is in close touch with dozens of families in Middlesbrough who are again going to have a tough Christmas this year. You may feel you would like to offer a gift for their children at this service. The sort of things she suggests are:

Toys (not weapons please), chocolates, shower gel, socks,
gloves, underwear, scarves, colouring books, crayons, any
non-perishable goods etc.

If you would like to wrap them, please label them on the outside as for a Boy / Girl / Boy or Girl.
If you wrap them, please keep them with you when you enter the church. But gifts are sometimes awkward to wrap up, in which case there will be a box at the back of church for you to put them in if you prefer that.
Don't feel obliged to bring a gift. We look forward to seeing you anyway.
